I'm back! And with a new dog!

Sorry for the blogging slackage!  I was sick.  I mean really sick.  For more than 2 weeks I suffered under the oppression of a system-wide viral infection and a secondary bacterial infection.  Yey.  Lots of soup, sleep and a smattering of antibiotics (you know how sick I have to be to take any medication...).

But that's all over, and now I'm playing catch up... slooooooooowwwwwwwwwwly.

Top of the list is our new foster baby, Ginger.

Ginger is a 3-4 year old Labradoodle and Terrier mix.  I'd bet money she's part Airedale.  She weighs about 50 pounds, but she could stand a bit of meat on her bones.

Her background:  Ginger was a stray, running in a little dog gang with another pup.  They were picked up by the County when they cornered and killed a cat.  The shelter cleaned this beauty up and put her in foster care... where she got ahold of a rabbit and sent it to heaven.  In other words, this is a dog who knows how to catch her own meals and should only go to a home free of tasty prey (no cats, rabbits or chickens running around).

So now Ginger is fostering with us, and she's currently stretched out on the floor by my side.

Actually, she never leaves my side.  If you spent 24 hours a day petting this dog, she'd still want more.  There really is not enough love in this world to fill up this dog's heart.  She is very, very sweet.

And the awesome part is that she loves other dogs as much as people.  She had to spend one night in the shelter between her two foster homes, and she leapt the wall between "cells" and spent all night snuggling the dog who was staying there.

She is very quiet, certainly on the shy side.  Once she warms up to you, though, she is your BFF.  She's only been here for a couple of days, but already she greets us in the morning with a happy tail wagging, and I can see the personality in her eyes.  Once this dog finds her FURever home, she'll be a real delight (if your arm doesn't fall off from petting her!).

"I'm hungry. You got any rabbit?"

Like said on Facebook (yes, I'm sorts there too) Ginger so reminds me of Kippy, my first dog -- a whooping big Airedale with love to spare. He was anathema to small critters too!

Glad you're feeling better.

They're hunters. I'm not sure why that situation with the rabbit happened in the first place. Dogs are hunters. We keep our hens away from them, and it seems obvious that rodents would be prime targets...
